PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION


The Explosives Instructional Equipment Technician repairs and maintain robotic device, disruptors, foam systems, and other technical equipment used during Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Hazardous Devices Scholl (HDS) training. 


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Repair and maintain robotic devices, disruptors, foam systems, and other technical equipment used during HDS training, ensuring equipment is good operating condition and working safely.
  • Assist instructors in setting up training exercises involving technical equipment
  • Assist HDS staff with research into explosives-related technology developments for explosive ordnance disposal.
  • Assist instructors and curriculum design specialists with writing scenarios based on current tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) incorporating an understanding of robot and other technical equipment functioning while implementing weapons technical intelligence and tactical forensic exploitation into training tasks and exercises.
  • Assist in the proper transport, set up, and storage of HDS robotic devices and technical equipment in training areas.
  • Maintain accountability of issued HDS robot and technical equipment inventory, other assigned equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Maintain knowledge of current IED TTPs, trends in the use of commercial and home-made explosives, and trends in the use of chemical, biological, and nuclear explosive threats.
  • May serve as Primary or Assistant Instructor for blocks of instruction, as needed.
  • May assist in explosives-related research projects being conducted under the direction of the FBI.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active Top Secret clearance required; Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility preferred.
  • Minimum High school diploma or a GED; Associate’s, Bachelor or graduate degree in robot technology, electronics, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline with core classes in hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, CADD/CAM (computer-assisted design and drafting, and computer-assisted manufacturing) systems, and microprocessors) from an accredited community college or technical school, college or university preferred.
  • Minimum five years of recent operational experience as either a HDS Certified Public Safety Bomb Technician and certified bomb squad member or certified Federal bomb technician; or Active-Duty Military Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician/Specialist; Ten years of experience is preferred.
  • Minimum two years recent experience repairing and maintaining bomb disposal robots, PAN disruptors, foam containment and other equipment and gear used by bomb squads and to train bomb squad technicians; Four years preferred.
  • Ability to maintain and operate various machine and hand woodworking and metalworking tools used to fabricate IED and Unexploded Ordinance training devices, e.g., lathe, band saw, 3-D printer.
  • Experience ordering, storing, handling, assembling, and managing materials, supplies, and components used to repair and maintain robots, in accordance with applicable health and safety rules and regulations.
  • S. Army Training and Doctrine Command or equivalent Service Instructor Training Course Certification; or FBI or equivalent law enforcement Instructor Certification.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Competent in Windows OS and Microsoft Office, operating an IBM-style microcomputer, and utilizing computer databases.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing approximately 80 lbs.
  • Ability to drive and operate a motor vehicle, fork-lift and other warehouse equipment.   
  • Ability to meet minimum physical/medical requirements (standard qualifications based on recommendations by the National Bomb Squad Commanders Advisory Board).
